Dental Implants

Tooth loss affects the appearance of your smile and makes it difficult to speak and chew comfortably.

Thanks to modern dentistry, tooth loss can be addressed with dental implants that replace tooth roots and support restorations.

At Elegant Dental Care in Loma Linda, CA, our dentists restore smiles using dental implants. Here's what implants can do for you...

The Benefits OF DENTAL IMPLANTS

Traditional dental implants are titanium posts that replace tooth roots. A dentist or oral surgeon places dental implants surgically through the gums and into the jawbone. The medical-grade titanium used in dental implants fuses permanently to the jawbone in a process called osseointegration. Once implants are securely rooted in the bone, they serve as support to dental restorations like dentures, bridges, and crowns. The many benefits of this solution include:

A Lifelong Solution

When properly maintained, dental implants have been proven to last for 40 years or longer. While the restoration attached to the implant will eventually need to be replaced, the implant itself can provide a lifetime of support.

Secure Placement

Traditional dentures are not secured directly to the jaw, which can lead to embarrassment when they slip out of place or click against surrounding teeth. Implants are securely attached to the jawbone, so they allow dentures to function like natural teeth.

Jawbone Retention

When a tooth is lost, the jawbone can begin to atrophy at the site of the missing tooth root. Dental implants provide the necessary stimulation to keep the jaw strong and healthy.

Renewed Confidence

After dental implant treatment, you'll no longer have to hide your smile because of a missing tooth. You can feel better about yourself when you look in the mirror and take on the world with more confidence. Many of our implant patients choose to combine the treatment with cosmetic procedures for an even greater boost of self-esteem.

How Are Dental Implants Placed? A TREATMENT TIMELINE

Traditional dental implant treatment can take several months from the beginning of treatment to the final placement of the restoration. Other varieties of implants such as mini dental implants or the Ultratooth implant can take less time. When you decide to restore your smile with traditional dental implants, you can generally expect a treatment timeline like this:

Consultation

During a free dental implant consultation at our dental office in Loma Linda, CA, our dentists will examine your bite, the site of your missing tooth, the bone density of your jaw, and other factors to determine if implants are right for you. If you choose to proceed with implant dentistry, we can schedule your first surgery.

Implant Placement

During the first procedure, the dentist will create small incisions in your gums in order to place the titanium implants. Once the implants are inserted into the bone, the incisions are closed. A temporary restoration can be placed so your smile will be gap-free during recovery.

First Healing Period

A waiting period of approximately four to six months is required for the titanium to fuse to the bone. Once the dentist determines that the implant is secure, the second procedure can be scheduled.

Abutment Placement

During this procedure, a small metal connector known as an abutment is attached to the top of the implant.

Second Healing Period

After abutment placement, a second healing period of a few weeks is required for the gum tissue to heal around the abutment.

Restoration Placement

A custom-crafted denture, bridge, or crown is attached to the abutment. The restoration will look indistinguishable from natural teeth, so others will notice a beautiful smile rather than dental work.

Kinds of Dental Implants

The needs of every dental patient are unique, which is why we offer several types of dental implants. If you have a missing tooth, schedule a consultation with our team so we can determine which kind of implant will be best for you. The implant dentistry options we offer to patients throughout San Bernardino and Redlands include:

Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implants are smaller in diameter than regular implants and are a good alternative for patients who do not have sufficient bone density to undergo traditional implant placement.

All-on-4 Dentures

If you are missing a full arch of teeth, you do not need an individual implant for every single missing tooth. Rather, a full denture can be securely attached to only four implants using the All-on-4 treatment method.

Minimally Invasive Implants

Developments in dentistry continually allow dentists to use less invasive techniques during implant surgery. Some of the newer implant designs are able to be inserted into the jawbone in less time and with less discomfort than ever before.

Ultratooth Implants

Elegant Dental Care in Loma Linda, CA, is a certified provider of the Ultratooth implant. If you lose a front tooth, we are able to place a fully-functioning restoration in just one office visit using this solution.

Metal-Free Implants

For patients concerned about metal allergies, we offer dental implants made of white zirconia.
