Am I a Candidate for Porcelain Veneers?
Veneers can be used to fix a multitude of cosmetic dentistry issues. They are most often recommended if patients have:
Worn enamel
Chips or cracks
Tooth wear and tear
Uneven teeth
Slight misalignment
Gaps and spaces
Discoloration from permanent stains
Teeth that are dissimilar in color or contour
However, those who smoke or have weak teeth may not be candidates for porcelain veneers. If your teeth have extensive damage, dental crowns may be a viable alternative option. Additionally, those who have periodontal disease, decay, missing teeth, or who need major orthodontic work may require additional treatments prior to having veneers placed. Ask our dentistry team if you are eligible for this type of treatment.
How Do Veneers Work?
Porcelain veneers are strong, thin restorations that adhere to the front teeth surfaces. Once bonded into place, they camouflage chips, cracks, discoloration, and other cosmetic flaws, enhancing your smile and overall appearance.

Traditional vs Minimal-Prep Veneers

Traditional Dental Veneers
The most common type, traditional veneers require a thin layer of enamel removal. The process is much like what has been outlined in the section above. Traditional veneer placement usually takes at least two office visits.

Minimal-Prep Dental Veneers
Conversely, minimal-prep veneers require little to no alteration of the natural tooth structure. At Elegant Dental Care, our doctors use the most conservative methods available. However, not everyone is eligible for minimal-prep veneers.
To determine which type of dental veneers are right for you, schedule a consultation at our practice. Our doctors can design a personalized treatment plan to meet your unique needs.
Caring for Your Porcelain Veneers
Veneers usually last between seven to ten years before they need to be replaced. To keep them in excellent condition, a few guidelines should be followed.

Brush and Floss Daily
Patients should brush two to three times a day and floss at least once daily. Because harsh ingredients can damage the porcelain, brush your dental veneers with a nonabrasive fluoride toothpaste to prevent micro-scratches. Ask your dentist for specific product recommendations.

Wear a Night Guard if Necessary
You may be asked to wear a night guard to protect your veneers and natural teeth, especially if you suffer from bruxism (chronic clenching or grinding). Your dentist can create a custom oral appliance that will fit and feel better than store-bought brands.

Avoid Certain Foods and Drinks
Refrain from biting into foods that are hard or firm to minimize shock to the veneers. It is also a good idea to avoid dark-colored foods and beverages, such as tea, coffee, red wine, and tomato sauce. Porcelain is designed to resist stains, but the bonding material can still darken over time.

Break Bad Habits
Porcelain veneers act much like your natural teeth. However, you must take care to not abuse the veneers, as they can be broken or damaged. Therefore, avoid using your teeth (or your veneers) as tools. Never bite your nails or use your teeth to tear off tags.

Visit Your Dentist
Regular dental visits are essential for everyone. But if you have veneers, it is important to attend all routine exams and cleanings at our Loma Linda, CA, practice. During these appointments, we will check your dental veneers to ensure they are in good condition.
Financing Dental Veneers

Insurance and Veneers
Porcelain veneers are categorized as a cosmetic dentistry procedure. Therefore, this treatment is considered optional and is not generally covered by dental insurance plans. However, our financial experts are happy to check your coverage and submit all necessary paperwork.

Available Financing Options
At Elegant Dental Care, we provide a number of financing options so our patients can undergo the treatment they deserve. We are proud to accept CareCredit® and LendingClub USA. We also offer a range of in-office financing solutions to fit every need and budget.
